Kiss 'n Tell

Welcome to the Kiss ‘n Tell Survey!

What’s this all about you ask? Well, there is still stigma and silence when it comes to talking about sexual health and we want you to start the chatter about the sex matter!

This is your chance to tell us your thoughts on how you can feel empowered to make the right choices when it comes to your sexual health.

Each day, we’ll ask you to send us your thoughts on a different subject. At the end of each day we’ll publish the top 3 responses. There’s also a section where you can have free reign on anything you want to say about sexual health in Australia.

Do you think there should be increased access to confidential sexual health services? Would you like more contraceptive options? Better sex education in schools?

Go on! Tell us what you think by filling in the questions below. And don’t worry, you’ll remain completely anonymous, so you really can get everything off your chest!

Keep coming back to this section as we’ll change the topic daily.

Thursdays’ topic was: Have you ever had the ‘sex talk’ with your parents and if so, how did the conversation start?

Top 3 responses:

  • It was never a big sit-down thing; they just answered our questions and asked if we understood the sex references on TV
  • Nooo, I was just left a book on sex, that was really good, even had the bird and the bee in it to explain everything.
  • I was planning a weekend away with my partner of two years and my mum reluctantly started the conversation because she wanted me to start taking the pill. You should have seen the mixture of confusion, shock and relief in her eyes when I told her not to worry because I was already using it!

Wednesday's topic was: Is there anything you wish you’d done differently regarding your sexual health?

Top 3 responses:

  • Not really. I have always used condoms, and my first bf got a STI check before we ever had sex (it was my first time)
  • Not had unprotected sex with a stranger when I was 15. That was incredibly stupid in the first place but to not use a condom just as extra risk to an already unsafe event. I wish it never happened and I wish I knew more about STIs back then. I never knew just how important it is to ALWAYS protect yourself.
  • I wish I had never let him near me without a condom instead of thinking "He's popular, he must be clean"

Tuesday's topic was: What to do if your friend tells you they have an STI

Top 3 Tips:

  • Praise them for getting tested, reassure them, make sure they've talked to their doctor, and ask if they've talked to previous partners about getting testing too.
  • Give them information about the medical clinic and advise them to make an appointment for a sexual health assessment/ check. Tell them not to have unprotected sex with anyone especially until they see a doctor.
  • Tell her everything I know about the STI and how to fix it. Recommend they see a doctor. Nag them until they get it fixed!

Thanks for 'kissing 'n telling'!

Monday's Topic: Tips on Negotiating Safe Sex

Top 3 tips on negotiating safe sex:

  • Have lots of condoms in lots of different places so you can always find them and so you can talk about them all the time. Call them PARTY HATS!
  • If you like it, then you should put a condom on it!
  • Prepare like a boy scout!
