We Help Because Every Year…

  • Over 200 million women worldwide want contraceptives and family planning services but cannot access them
  • Over 530,000 women die from complications from pregnancy or childbirth – most of these deaths could be prevented and 99% of these deaths occur in the developing world
  • 10 million women suffer from preventable injury, infection or disease from childbirth, pregnancy or poor sexual health
  • In rural and isolated areas, less than 10% of women receive all antenatal check-ups leaving them vulnerable to illness, injury or death
  • A child who loses a mother is then 10 times more likely to die in the first two years of life
  • One woman dies every seven minutes from complications from unsafe abortion. For every women that dies, 20 women are expected to suffer from life disabling illness or disease leaving them unable to work or contribute to their family, community and society
 Marie Stopes International is part of a global network of partners. The charity arm of the organisation, Marie Stopes International Australia (MSIA) is a not-for-profit organisation that provides sexual and reproductive healthcare and education to women and their families in the Asia Pacific region and with Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

MSIA works in-country with local partners, governments and communities to provide vital, high-quality, affordable and life changing services, education, information, projects and programs.
