The Goals | The Timing | The Key Messages | Partners Media CSA

Sexual Health Week 2009 aims to educate and empower males and females to take control of their sexual health.

The goals of Sexual Health Week are to:

  • Decrease the rates of sexually transmitted infections in Australia
  • Encourage regular sexual health check ups
  • Remove the stigma surrounding sexually transmitted infections and sexual health
  • promote awareness of the many contraceptive options available
  • reinforce the importance of condom usage and practicing safe sex at all times

The timing of Sexual Health Week has been chosen to coincide with:

  • Schoolies Week – end of school party time and risky sexual activity can go hand in hand for many teens
  • The festive season – office Christmas parties over the Nov/Dec period can often result in frivolous sex
  • New Years Eve – traditionally associated with the “midnight kiss” and sexual activity

The messages of Sexual Health Week are:

  • Take control of your sexual health – always negotiate safe sex
  • Don't let love bug you – get a sexual health check up
  • Contraception Conundrums? – find out what contraception is right for you
